It’s alive! Last week we got our Articles of Incorporation back from the state, and Bricks by the Bay, Inc. is now a legal nonprofit corporation. On Tuesday, we had a directors’ meeting at FedEx Kinko’s in Cupertino where we signed the bylaws, and afterward I sent in the applications for tax-exempt status to the state and IRS. Assuming those are approved, we’ll be able to proceed with official announcements of the event (the hotel contract is contingent on it).
In the meantime, I’m pleased to announce the directors and officers of Bricks by the Bay, Inc.:
- Bill Ward, President
- Bruce Chamberlain, Secretary
- Loren Merrell, Chief Financial Officer

At the BayLUG meeting on Sunday, January 18, we had a business meeting to discuss the finances for Bricks by the Bay. Bill Ward gave a presentation explaining the costs and revenue sources, and asked for pledges of financial support to cover the convention’s initial costs, such as the hotel’s deposit. Support was strong, and we now have enough pledges to confidently sign the hotel contract. We’re meeting with a lawyer to discuss what (if any) legal entity should be created to run the convention, most likely a non-profit organization. The plan is to sign the hotel contract by the end of this month. Once that’s signed we will make our initial public announcement of the venue and dates.
