At Bricks by the Bay we are proud to announce this year’s Speaker, Dan Parker.
Dan Parker is an independent commercial LEGO artist based in Tacoma, Washington. In the last twenty-five years he has produced nearly 4000 miniature, mosaic, sculpture and mechanical works for commissions, events, and education programs. Favorite pieces include a 40,000-piece Statue of Liberty, a 6-foot round Star Wars Deathstar, gingerbread house, and an actual coffin (casket).
“I love to design and build! From the time I could walk and pick things up, I’ve always enjoyed imaging something and then building it. Whatever the material, whatever the subject, it’s always fun. Toy mediums — like LEGO — are a great way to pursue design interests. A handful of pieces can be built into so many different things. Once I get an idea – or a challenge from a client – I can’t wait to get into the studio and work it out in LEGO bricks!
“I get asked how am I able to design SO many things. We treat LEGO pieces the same way a musician works with notes. Just as C notes can be found in any genre, we can use a spaceship wing to construct a fantasy sword or the angled edge of a building balcony. It just takes a little thought.
With LEGO, I can be the custom car designer, the architect, the space colony builder, and the castle master-mason.
